Video editing is my new ‘yoga’, as it is described in this post from four years ago. I ‘want’ to love video editing. I like the result and the feeling I get when it’s done, but it’s a focuser. Just like writing.
For me, the desire to write and create videos comes from the place of somethingmore. It’s a pull. And you do it to do it.
I suppose if I were facilitating a live book club, for today’s excerpt I’d start by noticing the feeling state of a desired outcome. In the excerpt, I had a feeling state that I desired – it was connected to the experience of running. When I wrote this post in 2020, I hadn’t run in years. I also assumed I wouldn’t run again (knees), and had made peace with it. Rather than longing for a time when I could run for miles (I refer to running as my original Quiet Time), I captured the feeling that running gave me. An eagerness. There was an obsession/addiction thing going on as well, but that’s not today’s focus.
- Can you capture the feeling state of a moment in time that was meaningful to you?
- Can you capture your thoughts regarding the moment in time? Do you assume ‘that was then’? Do you tell a story about the time as if that feeling was only because of what was happening at the time? Is there a longing or a wishing for that time?
- Do you have a desired outcome in current space and time that pulls you? Are you open to allowing the desire with a knowing that something is happening? Almost thinking of the desire as if it has a magnetic pull that is operating in its own timing. Are you open to the experience of allowing?
If you read storyitell, in part three I share some practices that help with getting curious about desired outcomes. In the frame I used an example of ‘road trips’, specifically because it was low stakes. It was easy to allow the possibility. If you follow my content, especially in June, you will notice the momentum road trips has taken. Harmless. Fun.
And here is allowing…
