A simple, no-cost strategy to get better personal outcomes in day.*, is to notice what it is that you want from others and give it to yourself. The next step is to give the same thing to others without expecting anything in return.
* I refer to day. as one's ordinary existence that includes waking up, a beginning routine, lifestyle habits and interests, activities, an ending routine, sleep. It includes, but is not limited to, time spent commuting, waiting in lines, grocery, and general or routine demands on your time such as family, work, community/citizenry obligations etc.
At the end of The Story I Tell. How to make the Age of Disruption work for you, I write about my ‘aha’ moment that included this simple discovery. The misson statement for day.llc is: to share content that allows adults and children to be seen, heard, valued, and understood. When I did this to myself, it made it more natural to extend the same consideration toward others.
For today’s blog, I am beginning with three reflective questions that are a result of recent influences on my own thinking.
First, a little context for the questions…
Question One: Tim Ferriss shared a YouTube video of Jerry Seinfeld giving a commencement speech to Duke graduates. I’m not exactly sure of my response to the entirety of the speech, and I’m not sure how necessary it even is for me to have an opinion, but there is one takeaway for certain: do what fascinates you.
Question Two: Along the same thinking that led me to conclude ‘I’m not sure how necessary it is for me to have an opinion,’ I’m curious about content that does not include a judgement, criticism, or comparison.
Questions Three: I recently became very clear about a few next steps for me as a community contributer. There’s no reason to share my vision, because it is just a seed. My vision is nothing immediate, and I’d like to pay for the process toward the desired outcome as it unfolds, rather than take on debt. Using the strategies in the brainstorm section of part three – storyitell, makes considering possibilities over the course of ten years one of playful discovery and nonattachment.
Here are the questions, and my responses as of earlier this morning:
What are you fascinated by? I am fascinated by highly intelligent young people whose behaviors are viewed as problematic. I’m fascinated by mushrooms/psilocybin and the capacity of nature to heal. I’m fascinated by the increased frequency of thoughts becoming things in my life.
What holds your interest and attention that does not include judgment, criticism, or comparison? Improv and Theater Games. Video editing. Yoga.
Do you have a ten year plan? If so, why? Glad you asked. Yes. And it’s a new thing for me. The space of ten years gives me a more realistic visual for how to reach my desired outcomes. Quiet Time created the vision. My why is that it’s fun to create a path toward desired outcomes. I started doing this with Road Trips as I introduced in part three of The Story I Tell. How to make the Age of Disruption work for you.
