Today is the first post of the 2024 blog year – Sunday posts.
Earlier in this first week of 2024, I shared the first Thursday post: something more. week one
The 2024 blog year is going to follow the book Something More. Connecting to the Pulse of a Shared Humanity on Thursdays; and the book A Better Way. How to use inner resources to create your own Algorithm on Sundays.
My broad view is to share weekly excerpts from the books, derive three general ideas each week to focus on during Quiet Time, and share relevant resources that support the ideas.
I have a lot of resources. To specify, I have a lot of resources I created. I see things in my mind, understand and make meaning within ‘my heart’ as I find it easier to feel than to articulate, and in a digital age I can use available technology and materials to bring what I see and feel to life, best I can. Other people do the same thing. Therefore, there is no shortage of available resources for a variety of topics and interests.
My topic and interest? selfcare and wellbeing from a personal lens that has been generalized using skills, tools, and strategies taken from a school job that includes direct teaching of social and emotional skillbuilding.
For more context you may read my first published title: The Story I Tell. How to make the Age of Disruption work for you
For today’s purposes, I will share the ‘front matter’ from abetterway, and for this week I will share the first excerpt/entry on January 9 as a ‘part II’.
You may follow along with the blog posts, or use your own soft cover book available at Amazon Books.

Hard back book cover. I love it because it is copied in color. I don’t love that it is so expensive to print and sell. I am not in my physical home at the time I am creating this post. I happen to have brought the hard copy on my trip. I will share from my soft cover often. The soft cover is affordable. There are two available: B/W @ $14, and color @ $22. I prefer the color copy because I have many instagram quotes throughout the book.
inner resources = executive functions (I most recently hear EF skills generalized as self regulation or self management)
algorithm = my use of this word is to suggest that once a human is aware of their inside world of thoughts, feelings, ideas, beliefs, opinions, urges, impulses, desireable and undesireable outcomes, they can then examine helpful and unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, and doing or not doing, to begin to attract situations, circumstances, and events that are more aligned with what is possible, or become familiar with a sense of possibility about life rather than a sense of being stuck and spinning in a version of same or similar limiting, or unhelpful outcomes.

My note to self – share. Happy Birthday Shan, if you happen to read this.

I did a little review of the Curtis Hayes viral video as I knew I would be posting it today.

…see video below:
From my context and perspective, I connected to the raw emotion. My inspiration to create and share comes from a sense of being stuck and spinning in a version of a story set on repeat. Perhaps not all limiting stories rise to the level of intensity and relevance as does the historic thread of race and caste, but limiting systems originated somewhere. The better way will be the result of disrupting the unhelpful stories and limiting patterns, and replacing with helpful beliefs that value the inherent dignity and worth of the human race.

Way too much to ‘unpack’ here. If you follow me, it will (maybe) make a bit more sense (?) If you are familiar with the BRIEF assessment tool, and like visuals, it may make a bit more sense as well (?)
