something more. week twenty six

I am a bit behind on my Book Club posts.

As I attempt to get back in sync with Sunday (abetterway) and Thursday (something more) excerpt shares, I need to play some catch-up.

Today is a excerpt from Something More. Connecting to the pulse of a Shared Humanity – power. June 27, 2020.

First, a few thoughts from this morning…

People. People. People.

I am relistening to Brene Brown’s Dare to Lead. The audio listen begins with Brene repeating People. People. People. as she tells a story about feeling out of place at a speaking engagement. If I recall correctly, she said when she peered out into the audience it looked like a Brooks Brothers convention. Amidst the suits, she recognized a familiar face from years past, a man whom she had attended AA meetings with. She also mentioned a female suit who came to say hi prior to the start. It was her neighbor. A neighbor with a story of which she knew, that included illness and family separation.

People. People. People.

Because I listened to Dare to Lead on a morning walk, I chose to listen to the (Unlocking Us) podcast later while I was cleaning. I decided to start at the beginning of Brene’s new series of podcasts that began again at the end of February 2024. Brene began with three one-hour long conversations interviewing Israeli-Palestine guests who lead grassroot movements to end violence by humanizing the people. All the people.

People. People. People.

Essentially, the guests defined nonviolence as a belief in a shared humanity. No one person’s story of peace should come at the cost of another’s.

People. People. People.
