Over the last few years (post quarantine) I’ve noticed that the ‘academics’ I pay attention to have begun their more recently published books with a section on defining terms.
It’s an interesting thing to consider for one whom has a desire to be an authentic communicator – (ie. ‘are we even talking about the same thing?’)
In the spirit of defining terms, I’d like to share how I define two terms: self-care and archetype. We will start here, but I’ll let you know where we are going: is it possible to disrupt one’s personal archetype of self-care in effort to get better outcomes in day, as well as contribute to the collective lessening of extreme behaviors that cause harm to self or others.
What if the starting point to lessen undesireable outcomes in self and the collective whole, begins with one’s own definition of what it means to take care of themself. Hm.
Here we go…
Let’s start with a simple definition of each that I found in a quick google search:
Self-Care – the practice of individuals looking after their own health using the knowledge and information available to them.
Archetype – a very typical example of a certain person or thing.
This is a self-care blog. How I define self-care can be found at the bottom of this blog next to my picture…the very very very bottom. It says this: I define self-care as caring about yourself enough to notice your thoughts and the story they tell; then choosing skills, tools, and strategies to shift limiting scripts.
Okay, so go ahead and read it again. And then do it again. And maybe one more time. Allow for a possibility of it resonating with you on a soul level of the something more.
If this is the first time you have read one of my posts there are other terms that may be a bit confusing: for example, day and the something more. For this blog, let’s focus on the archetype of self-care, and even more: the archetype of a self-care blog or publication.
Fluff? Hype? Indulgence?
Ohhhhhhh….us. How did we get to thinking that time spent with self is a fluffy indulgence, not relevant to what really matters.
Yeah. Reread that. Read it again. And again. Allow the possibility of a shift in paradigm about time spent with self. Just allow. Allowing lives in the field of possibility, along with trusting and belief…some may refer to it as faith.
Can you be open to disrupting the archetype?
Can you be open to considering a new way of thinking about intentional time spent with just yourself being a starting point for living day in a mostly (65% of the time) satisfying way?
day.
Where does one begin?
Quiet Time. (define your own term: time spent with self to notice thoughts, feelings and the story they tell. does the story resonate with an authentic expression – how do you desire to show up and express yourself? is the theme of your story one of fear or possibility? does your outside, or external expression, match the internal truths? to live day in an authentic way it must begin with a resonance to what that even means – what does authenticity feel like to you, and why does it matter – to you. spending time with yourself will bring you back to you…you’ll get the answers that matter to you…or…you’ll get one little nugget at a time…the nuggetcrumbs will return you back to you.)
Because this blog is created in Quiet Time, it may lag in what typically engages a reader. In Quiet Time, it’s easier to take on a broadview of personal and social situations, circumstances, events. In Quiet Time, it’s easier to be curious about big feelings and reactions. In Quiet Time, it’s easier to wonder about a betterway without ‘current way’ being an enemy – ‘current way’ just is. In Quiet Time, it’s easy to gush in the present moment of goodness, while at the same time gush about what’s possible. In Quiet Time, it’s easier to believe in what is possible, even if there is yet to be evidence as far as observable conditions. In Quiet Time, one resonates with the uncondition. One attunes to the uncondition as the place of wholeness, acceptance, and possibility. In Quiet Time, it’s easier to be curious about authentic expression and consider how one wants to show and express oneself. In Quiet Time, it’s easier for goodness to show up. Goodness is the uncondition.
It may be easier to consider what Quiet Time could be like for you, by considering what Quiet Time is not. Quiet Time is not Loud Time. Let’s suggest that in Loud Time it is difficult to hear. In Quiet Time it is easier to hear. It’s easier to listen.
We will continue next post…to listen…with…the…intent…to…hear…. 👂
I was playing with options available on this WordPress site. The following is an option to embed my Instagram. I’m not sure if it is just pictures of the grid, or if you can actually link to the account. WordPress offers many design options. I utilize less than 10% of what is possible. Design is hard to hack without formal training. Possible, but hard af especially with the creative gift of focus deficit…(FDHD)…🐿
